and you will hear back usually within a few hours.
Also, please try and give a minimum 24 hours notice if you are cancelling an assignment. This gives the scheduler enough time to find a replacement. Note that if you make a habit of cancelling your assignments too often, or on very short notice you may not receive additional assignments.
What if my partner doesn’t show up?
In the event that you are the only umpire who shows up, don't panic. Coaches and parents are very understanding if one umpire works the game by themselves and they recognize the extra challenge it presents. If you are doing the game by yourself, you should work the game from behind the plate where you get the best view of the field, the players. On balls put into play it is only necessary to take a few steps into the infield and you will have a good angle on plays at any bases.
Make sure that after the game you let the umpire scheduler know as you will receive additional pay (see pay scales) for doing the game alone. We do our very best to avoid situations like this at all costs and over the years we have been very successful in minimizing games with only one umpire and in situations where this is unavoidable we make every effort to let the coaches know in advance of the situation. Remember, if you are unexpectedly left alone, the coaches will understand of how much more difficult it is to do a game alone and they will be sympathetic to the challenges involved in that and you may be surprised that it is easier than you expected to do the game by yourself.
If there is a serious problem in any game where you are left alone please inform the umpire in chief as soon as you can. This way the issue can be dealt with quickly and appropriately!
