Uniforms
Depending on whether you have been assigned to do the plate or bases, here is the dress code for Oakville Little League umpires:
Plate Uniform:
Approved black shirt w/ LL umpire patch on left shoulder, with a black undershirt
Grey pants.
Belt and ball bag (including brush and indicator).
Plate gear (including cup).
Little League Canada Umpire Hat.
Shin guards underneath pants
Base Uniform:
Approved black shirt with LL umpire patch on left shoulder, with a black undershirt
Grey pants.
Belt.
No ball bag.
Indicator (optional)
Little League Canada Umpire Hat.
New umpires may purchase everything, except pants and belts, at the clinic. Patches for the shirts are supplied at the clinic. Prices for the uniform items are as follows:
Navy Black Umpire Shirts: $25 -
Little League Canada Hat: $15
Ball Bag, indicator, brush: $ 10
In addition to their regular pay rate, new umpires, in their first year, will receive an additional $2 uniform allowance for every game umpired to a maximum $25.
Heather Grey dress pants need to be worn and these are available at local department stores. Dress pants are preferred, and they cannot be sweat pants or baseball pants.
Umpires are expected to present a professional image when wearing their uniform.
All umpire equipment is provided and is located in the green metal equipment boxes located at each park. All coaches are given keys to these boxes. If the box is not already opened when you get there, ask one of the coaches to open it for you. Usually, the home coach will open the box to get the bases and set up the field. Starting in 2011 we are providing inside chest protectors (2 sizes), shin guards (2 sizes) a mask and dangle guard. Inside chest protectors are to be worn under the umpire shirt (umpires doing the plate need to wear an undershirt). Shin guards should be worn under the pants.
If you notice equipment missing or damaged, please let both the umpire in chief and the scheduler know so that replacements can be put in the boxes.
