Umpiring at District & Above
Oakville Little League is part of District 1, which includes leagues in High Park, Erindale, Centre Wellington, Ancaster, Dundas & Stoney Creek. Apart from the House League Program, Leagues also have All-Star teams which compete each year at the District level for the opportunity to advance to other levels of competition. At the Major, Junior, Senior & Big League levels, winners can advance through the Provincial & Canadian championships to their respective World Series.
Umpires for these games are all volunteers recruited from local leagues and all district umpires must also umpire games at the local house league. Based on performance at the District level you may be asked to participate in Provincial and / or Canadian tournament games. Umpiring at any all-star level, up to and including the World Series, is done without monetary compensation.
District 1 holds clinics each year for umpires who are recommended by their local leagues. These clinics are in addition to the local clinics, and provide more comprehensive rules coverage and mechanics training, due to the significance of games being officiated at the all-star level. In addition, you will be provided with training on how to work in 3 & 4 umpire crews. Evaluations are provided after each game.
