Ejections & Protests
In Oakville Little League there are very few of these a year. (1 or 2 a season). All of the coaches are told that the umpires are there to keep the games moving along as best they can and to enforce the rules in the best way they can. They know that any poor behaviour on their part will not be tolerated by the league.
How to Handle an Ejection:
- Ask the player / coach to leave the park.
- When you get home call the umpire in chief and tell him the entire story of what transpired. If possible document the events in an email.
- Don’t worry about it! You’ve done your job and done it well. At this point it is the job of the league to follow up on things. We will take care of everything!
If you do not want to umpire that team again (which is okay!), just make sure you tell umpire in chief that and he’ll make sure that you don’t run into the same problems again.
Protest
If you have a protest, make a note of the exact point in the game the protest occurred. When you get home get in touch with the umpire-in-chief and tell them the whole story. If possible send the information in an email as well. Then sit back and don’t worry about it. Your job with protests and ejections is just to make sure that umpire in chief gets ALL the information they need to follow up on the protest.
